Mt. San Lorenzo & Cueva de las Manos (AR 086)
Pre-Tour of Adventure in Patagonia

Mount San Lorenzo, the highest one of the Austral Andes, 3706 meters high, can be seen from an incredible distance. This huge mountain dominates the surrounding landscape as a solitary giant. The place is not very visited due to the long distances to any urban center and because of the poor road and tourist infrastructure, so you will really feel 'off the beaten track'. In route to Mount San Lorenzo, visit Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Painted Hands), one of the most important cultural testimonies of the former inhabitants of the region.

NOTE : Trecks are moderate to demand. The difficulty of the tour is given by the ascention on the third and fourth day, and it can be regulated according to the group´s shape.


Day 1 – Comodoro Rivadavia / Perito Moreno
Reception at Comodoro Rivadavia airport and transfer to the local bus terminal to board a regular bus line to Perito Moreno Village, 480 km across the plateau heading the Andes Range. Reception at the bus terminal and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Dinner.

Day 2 – Estancia Lagos del Furioso
In the morning, visit the Pinturas River Canyon. Descend some 70 meters by foot along a steep slope to visit the Cave of the Panted Hands. It's a group of rupestrian paintings on the walls of a deep canyon of the river. Return to route 40, and continue some kilometers southwards to take a secondary road heading west, towards the Andes Range up to the beautiful Pueyrredón and Posadas lakes . Arrival at Estancia Lagos del Furioso. Accommodation. Dinner.

Day 3 – Glacier Oro Base Camp
Hike along Oro River course along a well-marked trail, with no obstacles. Then, climb a hill at the foothill of the main peak of Mt. San Lorenzo, flanked by gigantic and almost vertical glaciers that descend from the altitudes. Then go back part of your way up to the appropriate site for camping.

Day 4 – Estancia Lago del Furioso
After another hikeapproaching again Mt. San Lorenzo for further views of this fascinating massif, return to Estancia Lagos del Furioso. Accommodation at the estancia. Dinner.

Day 5 – Saturday - El Chalten
Very early in the morning, you will leave the Estancia Lagos del Furioso. You will travel 100 km until you reach a tiny village called Bajo Caracoles, and then southwards, 490 km more to arrive at El Chaltén.
