Day 1- El Chaltén
Arrival at El Chaltén. Welcome by the guide of the group. Briefing
about the Patagonian Ice-Field and features of the program. Details on
the use of the equipment provided by Fitz Roy Expediciones. Check out
of the equipment we'll carry with us during the voyage. Accommodation
at hostel and dinner.
Day 2- El Chaltén / Marconi Glacier
Private land transfer to the Electric River Bridge, 15 km Northwest from
El Chaltén and starting point of our first day of trekking towards
the base of Marconi Glacier. The first two hours of walk follow a well
marked path along the river. Then, we will enter in an area of morraine
and rocky terrain to reach our first camp at the base of Marconi Glacier.
Full board. 6 hours walking approximately. 300 mts. Climb during the walk-
10 km. Accommodation at camping.
Day 3- Marconi Glacier
Trekking over Marconi Glacier up to Marconi Pass (1500 mts.) This will
be a glacier trek, we use grampons (special shoes with spikes) and according
to the glacier's conditions we'll rope up. Impressive view of the wild
heart of the ice field and the mountain massifs of the area. Full board.
Approximately 6/7 hours walking. 800 mts. Climb. – 8 km. Accommodation
at camp on the ice field.
Day 4- Marconi Glacier / Mount Torre
Trekking on the ice field southbound up to the "Circo de los Altares"
at the foot of the mythic west face of Mount Torre. Use of snow shoes,
guides and assistants will carry gear with sleds. Full board. 6 hours
walking. – 12 km. Accommodation at camp on the ice field.
Day 5- Mount Torre / Viedma Refuge
Trekking down the ice field to Viedma Refuge, exit from the ice field
(lateral morraine of Viedma Glacier). Camp with access to mountain refuge.
Full board. 8 hours walking. – 14 km. Accomodation at refuge.
Day 6- Viedma Refuge / Mount Huemul
Trekking up to Paso Del Huemul, around Mount Huemul, with spectacular
panoramic views down Viedma Glacier. Full board. 6/7 hours walking. 8
km. Accommodation at refuge.
Day 7- Mount Huemul / Lake Viedma / El Chaltén
Trekking down to Lake Viedma and return to El Chaltén by boat.
Accommodation at hostel and dinner. 5 km.
Day 8 -9 – El Chaltén
Spare days in case of bad weather.
