Salta is the Argentine city where the Spanish influence is best preserved.
Enjoy its touch of elegance that talks of a sumptuous past that is still
alive in its large old houses and flowery courtyards. Also visit Cafayate,
a beautiful village in the Calchaquí Valleys famous for its wine
production. And do not miss the beautiful landscapes of the Humahuaca
Gorge with its old towns full of history and tradition.
Day 1 - Salta
Reception at Salta airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon,
a city tour visiting the Cathedral, the San Francisco Church, San Bernardo
Hill with a magnificent view of the city. Return to the hotel. Dinner
at restaurant.
Day 2 - Salta
Breakfast. Full day excursion to Cafayate, a beautiful village in the
heart of the Calchaquí Valleys passing by Las Conchas River Gorge
(also known as Cafayate Gorge) with its amazing rock formations eroded
by the carving action of wind and due to the pass of time.Lunch. In Cafayate,
visit a winery and the Aborigine Art Museum (optional). Return to Salta.
Day 3 - Salta
Breakfast. Early departure for a drive along Humahuaca Gorge, passing
by Purmamarca, Tumbaya, Tilcara with its Archeological Museum and the
old Indian fortress called 'Pucará de Tilcara', and the typical
parrish church in Uquía, finally arriving in Humahuaca. Lunch.
Visit to the Northern Carnival Museum and the Handicraft Fair. Return
to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 4 - Salta
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
Optional Tour:
2-hour rafting along the Juramento River (Difficulty: level 3) with accommodation
at Hotel del Dique located on the coast of the largest man-made lake in
the north: the Cabra Corral Dam; framed by a wonderful landscape and gorgeous
views of the imposing dam along with high quality services. See dinosaur
footprints, petrified seaweed, all set in a beautiful environment.
