Safaris in the Northwest (AR 051)

Movitrack offers an exciting alternative of touring within the Northwest of Argentina in its famous “tracking” tours. Their special 4WD vehicles are designed to offer the greatest pleasure during the tours, with a high degree of comfort and safety. Its sliding roof and the rear roof allow you to travel in the open air and enjoy a fully panoramic view of the gorgeous surrounding landscapes. It makes it possible to observe wild animals, exotic vegetation and impressive landscapes from such a short distance, that the trip really merits the label "Safari".
Take this unique opportunity to share some of the most amazing safaris: to the Quilmes Ruins and Cafayate and to the Humahuaca Gorge.

Safari to the Calchaquí Valleys

Departures: Sundays. MoviTrack departures: Mondays / Thursdays

Day 1 - Salta
Reception at the local airport. Transfer to the hotel. City tour of Salta and its rich architecture, including the Cathedral and the Cabildo (Old City Hall) both built in the XIX century. A panoramic view of the city from San Bernardo Hill is also a highlight. Return to the hotel.

Day 2 - Salta / Quilmes
Continental breakfast. Cross the Lerma Valley to reach the Escoipe Canyon and Cuesta del Obispo (Bishop's Slope). Along the Recta de Tin-Tin route, travel through the National Park Los Cardones to reach the old village of Cachi, placed at the foot of the snow-covered peak of Mt. Cachi (6,380 meters). On a picturesque little road, skirt the fertile valleys of the Calchaquí River through little villages such as Molinos, Angastaco and San Carlos. Later cross the impressive Quebrada de las Flechas (Arrows Gorge). Accommodation at a fascinating hotel placed close to the Quilmes ruins.

Day 3 - Quilmes / Salta
Continental breakfast. Visit the aborigine ruins and then continue with the MoviTrack to Cafayate to know and "taste" the main activity of this valley: the wine production. On the way back to Salta, travel through the amazing landscape of the Quebrada de las Conchas (Calchaquí River Gorge) with its fascinating rock formations that will be greatly admired from the open roof of the MoviTrack and visit Santa Anita, a traditional goat dairy farm. Arrival in Salta and accommodation.

Day 4 - Salta
Continental breakfast. Departure towards a densely forested area in the outskirts of Salta to enjoy a birdwatching tour, with guides specialized in ornithology, to see the typical bird species typical of Norwest Argentina, which outstands for their immense beauty and great variety. Don´t miss the imposing flight of the Condor and the continuos fluttering of the little birds in the lusty forest. Return to Salta. Accommodation.

Day 5 - Salta / Buenos Aires
Continental breakfast. Transfer to the local airport to board flight to Buenos Aires.


Safari to the clouds and Humahuaca

Departures: Fridays. MoviTrack departures: Saturdays / Wednesdays

Meals: according to itinerary. Air Fare: not included.

Day 1 - Salta
Reception at the local airport. Transfer to the hotel. City tour of Salta and its rich architecture, including the Cathedral and the Cabildo (Old City Hall) both built in the XIX century. A panoramic view of the city from San Bernardo Hill is also a highlight. Return to the hotel.

Day 2 - Salta / Tilcara
Continental breakfast. Early departure on a Movitrack Safari following the tracks of the famous "Train to the Clouds". On the way, the tour stops several times along the impressive "Quebrada del Toro" (Bull’s Gorge), until reaching San Antonio de los Cobres (3,775 m). The trip continues along the old route 40 through the Puna until the Salinas Grandes (Grand Salt Pit). Several stops on the way will allow you to take pictures of the vast landscape and the llamas. After crossing a 4,000 metre pass in height, the way goes down the spiral-like route of Cuesta de Lipan through the Purmamarca Valley until the historical village of the same name, where the Seven Color Hill provides a most attractive backdrop. After a walk through this nice village, which has an important handicraft market, you will continue to Tilcara, another village located in the famous Quebrada de Humahuaca (Humahuaca Gorge). Dinner. Accommodation.

Day 3 - Tilcara / Salta
Continental breakfast. The morning starts with a walking tour in the Tilcara fortress ruin site, on the top of a low hill surrounded by large cacti. Continue to Humahuaca Village to discover a town where the people still have many old traditions in their everyday life, combined with many traits of modernity. In the afternoon, return to Salta making a stop at San Salvador de Jujuy, for a short visit of the most interesting places in the city. Visit to a traditional farm in Salta, located in the middle of an area covered by subtropical vegetation. Arrival in Salta. Accommodation.

Day 4 - Salta
Continental breakfast.
