DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

Day 1: Lima

Transfer to Westin Lima Hotel.

Half day City tour

Afternoon tour of Lima’s streets and plazas visiting the city’s key attractions. The tour starts at the Love Park in Miraflores with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean passing through San Isidro, the financial center of the city and goes on to the Main Square where the Government Palace and the Town Hall are located. Visits to the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Convent, where San Martin de Porras and San Rosa de Lima used to walk around the hallways in 17th century, and where their remains rest today. The tour continues to the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco with visit to Dedalo Arts and Crafts, a perfect stop for anyone interested in seeing art with ingenuity. Afterwards, visit Huaca Pucllana (ceremonial center of the Lima culture) for a short visit to the archeological site Museum and go to the restaurant to taste a delicious Pisco Sour. **Please note Huaca Pucllana is closed on Mondays.

 

Day 2: Lima - Paracas

Nazca Line over flight Tour

Departure from Lima to Pisco airport (4 hrs drive). Be a part of the mystery of the Nazca Lines for a one-hour-forty minutes fly-over the astonishing lines, each with their unique design and immensity (some are 1,500 feet long) that can be only appreciated from 1,500 feet above. The lines comprise simple as well as complex zoomorphic designs that present more than 30 animals such as a monkey, a spider, a humming bird, a condor, as well as the renowned astronaut figure, among others. The origins are unknown, while many think it is a big astronomic calendar. Return to airport and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities and surrounding areas.

Desert Adventure

Enjoy the action and adventure of the Paracas desert in an all wheel drive vehicle driven by experts who know the spectacular dunes. This region, where the winds blow from east to west, is full of history and culture and the landscape takes your breath away. After a fascinating time around the sand dunes and watching the sunset at one of the driest desert in the world, enjoy a luxury tent-picnic in a magical environment under the stars. Return to hotel via smoother route. Duration: 4 hours.

 

Day 3:  Paracas - Lima

Ballestas Island Tour

Embark on a boat tour to the Ballestas Islands from the pier of the Paracas Luxury Collection hotel for a two-hour boat journey round the islands. Discover the Ballestas Islands diverse and endemic coastal fauna and take a close look at sea lions, pelicans, Humboldt penguins and other sea birds. Brief stop for appreciation and explanation of the Candelabro (“The Chandelier”), a giant figure marked on a costal hill in the style of the Nazca lines that only can be seen from the ocean. At appropriate time, departure back to Lima on a private vehicle (4 hours drive) and drop off at the Hotel.

Day 4:  Lima - Sacred Valley

At appropriate time, transfer to the Lima Airport for flight to Cuzco.

Upon arrival to Cuzco city, transfer to Sacred Valley.


Sacred Valley Tour

Today, the Sacred Valley of the Incas awaits. The tour begins with a visit to Awanacancha, a textile center where artisans use the wool of Andean camelids, such as alpacas and llamas, to create beautiful knitted handicrafts and weavings. Next, browse the Pisac Market, a bustling outdoor market with lovely crafts and traditional food products, such as delicious empanadas or freshly baked bread.

In the afternoon, our tour continues to Ollantaytambo, a small town that still features many Inca constructions. Visit the Temple hill and plaza, and admire the impressive Inca terraces.

Day 5:  Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu

At the appropriate time, transfer to Ollantaytambo train station for departure on a two-hour journey to Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Station), continue to the Machu Picchu Citadel. After a guided visit, enjoy a lunch at one of the local restaurants. Time to explore the citadel and at appropriate time transfer to Aguas Calientes.

Day 6:  Machu Picchu – Cuzco

Today is free to explore the Machu Picchu Citadel (entrance and bus fee to Machu Picchu not included on this day).

If the weather is good, we highly recommend going up to Huayna Picchu to take in the immensity of Machu Picchu and admire the natural landscape and the enormous stone structure. The hike to the top of Huayna Picchu takes approximately two hours and a half (arrival must be before 1 pm). All hikers must register at the office at the start of the trail. Afternoon transfer to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Poroy Station (Cuzco).

Upon arrival, transfer from the train station to Palacio de Inka Luxury Collection Hotel.

 

Day 7:  Cuzco

City tour and surrounding ruins

Today’s exclusive city tour begins with a visit to the San Cristobal Plaza for a panoramic view of the city. Then, visit the San Pedro Market to soak up the local atmosphere and learn more about regional food products. Step inside the magnificent temple of Korikancha (the Quechua name means “Gold Enclosure”). In its glory days, this Inca temple was completely covered in gold. Next, visit the Santo Domingo Church, a lovely baroque building that contrasts sharply with the nearby Inca construction. Enjoy a pleasant stroll from San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, to Hatun Rumiyoc street. Along the way, stop to admire the Inca Roca Palace, now home to the Archbishop’s Palace. The walk continues to the Main Square for a visit to the city’s Cathedral and its valuable collection of beautiful colonial masterpieces. The next attraction is Sacsayhuaman, an impressive fortress on the outskirts of Cuzco, built by the Incas, who used nothing but enormous boulders. Also visit the Inca Shrine Qenqo and observe the sacrificial altar embedded in a rock cave. The last destination on this tour is the Puca Pucara viewpoint, a former Inca military fortress, and Tambomachay, an important archeological site. Return to the hotel.  Afternoon at leisure.

 

Day 8:  Cuzco

At appropriate time, transfer to the airport to take your flight back home.
