CASACALMA AND THE ENVIROMENT
Vertical garden:
the pants act as a shield around the building, helping in both winter and summer to save energy by creating thermal balance.

Windows:
double glass windows create airtight rooms that lose less heat or cool air, which reduces energy consumption. CasaCalma does not have frames that contain pvc (environmental poison)

Energy and illumination:
we have energy control systems in each room using the room key. We have predominately opted for florescent, low consumption lighting

Ecological materials:
the wood used is Carolina Pine. This is an American tree certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) which assures sustainable forest resources.
We have chosen not to laminate the wood; instead we have polished it with water based nontoxic Bona products.
Some furniture in the room is made with Kraft paper, which is a hand-woven, natural fiber.
The wallpaper is a type of paper Nowomen, which is asynthetic double wave, thereby helping conserve trees and forests; this paper is classified as M1 fire resistant, and does not generate toxic smoke.

Amenities 100% organic:
Our amenities are packaged in reusable, refillable bottles. We ask our guests not to remove them from the room to reduce the use of plastic. No testing on animals was used.

Ecofriendly pencils:
trees are specifically planted to produce 20m3 of wood per hour in order to get the raw material necessary to make these pencils. All econfrindly pencils come from planted wood certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). They are made with high quality raw materials, nontoxic and totally safe for the use by children, having passed strict internal laboratory controls in compliance with current EU legislation.
