Innovative solar technologies: A system of rotating solar tubes provides radiant heat for
the property. The heating at Estancia Vik is derived from radiant floor heat and all heated water
in the floors, heated water in the suites and heated pool water gets its energy from the solar
tubes which rotate following the sun to maximize heat generation. Photovoltaic panels are also
installed on property to generate electricity from the sun.
Wind Energy: Three on-site windmills create energy to power the electrical needs of Estancia
Vik.
Geothermal Energy: In the summer months, geothermal energy is used to provide a natural
cooling system for Estancia Vik. Using water from nearby Arroyo José Ignacio, the river that
also runs through the property, the cold temperature is extracted via a heat exchanging system
to provide cool air for the Estancia’s guest rooms and public spaces.
A program of water collection and recycling: Roofscapes collect all rainwater at Estancia
Vik which is recycled and used for irrigation, pool water and toilets.
Intelligent control systems: The resort features motion activated lights, use of light sensors
and time clocks as well as room key-controlled lights in each suite to ensure lights are turned off
when guests are not in their room.
Energy-efficient architectural design: The Estancia is designed to create shade and air flow
which ventilate naturally, providing natural cooling for the interior and exterior spaces. The
Estancia’s polished concrete floors are a natural insulator, providing a cooling effect in the spring
and summer months and warming guests in the fall and winter. Many of the property’s suites
and public spaces also feature large fireplaces providing additional warmth.
Organic Vegetable & Herb garden: An on-property vegetable and herb garden provides
many of the ingredients used by the Estancia’s chef, providing guests with a dining experience
filled with the freshest local ingredients.
Estancia Vik José Ignacio, which opened in February 2009, merges exceptional design, incomparable
location and natural setting, flawless personalized service, environmentally minded practices and an
unparalleled collection of contemporary Uruguayan and international art. Situated on 4,000 acres,
Estancia Vik is a traditional Spanish colonial structure featuring white adobe walls and a red tin roof
designed by Uruguayan architect Marcelo Daglio. The structure is 50,000 square feet, with more than
half of that space made up of interior patios of outdoor space courtyards, gardens, covered walkways
and an herb garden located within the Estancia walls. Located just 20 kilometers, or 12 miles, northeast
of Punta del Este, José Ignacio is emerging as South America’s most coveted international destination.
The Spanish colonial-style building is a 50,000 square foot structure
designed by Marcelo Daglio and the owners. The traditional estancia
features white adobe walls and red tin roofs with covered walkways
linking multiple outdoor courtyards and idyllic gardens. The expansive
patios feature outdoor seating areas, sculpture installations, respites
from the sun and a large herb garden.
The south side of the Estancia boasts a large grass covered garden and
20 meter pool made of Absolute Nero stone. The bottom of the pool
is dotted with fiber optic lights, which mirror the constellations above.
The Estancia’s private living space is separated into two wings, each
containing six bedroom Suites. Of the six suites in each wing, there are
four 500 square foot Suites on the ground level and two 900 square
foot Master Suites on the second floor. The Suites all feature full
bathrooms with separate bath tubs and rain showers, with the Master
Suites also including outdoor showers on the patio. Each suite also has
a full built-in closet, which is a walk-in closet in the Master Suites, and
private access to the exterior patios surrounding the Estancia.
All twelve private Suites have a unique design and display and integrate
original art conceived for each space by leading contemporary
Uruguayan artists.
